Muschelseide, netzartig gestrickt oder gehäckelt, lang und schmal, mit Fransen – oder defekt?

An der Weltausstellung von 1862 in London werden zum ersten Mal Muschelseideprodukte aus Italien gezeigt. Im Official Catalogue of the Industrial Departement wird diese Krawatte als Schal bezeichnet: Sub-Class C. 1672 Randacciu, M. Cagliari. – Shawl made with the byssus of the Pinna.

Ein Augenschein im National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh im Juni 2013 ergab, dass es sich hier nicht um einen Schal, sondern um eine Krawatte handelt.

Die Royal Italian Commission, welche diese Objekte nach London gebracht hatte, offerierte sie dem damaligen Industrial Museum of Scotland, dem heutigen National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
