An der Weltausstellung von 1862 in London werden zum ersten Mal Muschelseideprodukte aus Italien gezeigt.

Die Royal Italian Commission, welche diese Objekte nach London gebracht hatte, offerierte sie dem damaligen Industrial Museum of Scotland, dem heutigen National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
