Detail of the ties

Two ties, 19th century, I-Taranto. I-Firenze, Museo Zoologico La Specola (MS Inventory 44 and 45).

Sea silk, knitted or crocheted, with fringes, visible side patterned.

These two ties, together with the gloves (MS Inventory 42), were bought in 1868 by the entomologist Adolfo Targioni Tozzetti (1823-1902) in Taranto. His collection later became part of the La Specola Museum in Florence. Until Sergio Flore examined it more closely, these two ties were marked as belts. Historical aspects → modern times → Chambers of Wonder and → production and trade → Puglia.
