Pair of man’s gloves, late 18th century, I-Taranto. D-Rostock, Zoological Collection, University of Rostock (MS inventory 30).

Sea silk, plain right knit, thumb and index finger open, length 24.5 cm, width wrist 10 cm, heavily damaged.

The gloves still sewn together are among the objects that were probably never worn. They were donated to the founder of the collection, Prof. Dr. Oluf Gerhard Tychsen, in 1799 by Countess Sophia zu Stolberg from her family’s possessions. More about this in the chapter Historical aspects → Modern times → Giuseppe Capecelatro.
