This muff was exhibited for the first time in 1876 at the exhibition for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Philadelphia by Ward's Natural Science Establishment in Rochester, New York. In 1893 it belonged - together with the pointed cap and the gloves – to the objects exhibited at the World Columbian Exhibition in Chicago, the second World's Fair on North American soil. Ward sold it together with other scientific objetcs for $ 95,000 to the Field Museum which was founded the same year.
